Hank Cherry may have surprised a few people by winning the Bassmaster Classic, but I doubt that anyone who follows bass fishing was surprised by the fact that he won it on a jerkbait. Nor should they be surprised that the jerkbait in question was one of the Megabass Ito Vision 110 models, even though (as far as I know) Megabass doesn’t directly pay him a dime to throw them.

Indeed, the original 110 and its brethren have been thrilling tournament anglers and confounding competing sponsors for years. A decade or so ago, when Megabass was not as widely distributed in the US, something like the top five, or five of the top six, finishers in an Ozarks region FLW Tour event relied on the 110. Around that same time there was a mad rush on purchasing them, through ebay and other gray market means, and models in the GP Pro Blue color were selling for upward of a hundred bucks.

Once the price wars calmed down, I too got on the bandwagon, and my first 110 was indeed in a variation of that famous color. Since then, I’ve had to retire that one, and I’ve made a substantial investment in other colors. Pro Blue remains my go-to, but I also like Ozark Shad, Sexy French Pearl and Elegy Bone, among others.

I can’t remember (or won’t admit) precisely how many I have, nor can I necessarily distinguish the various shades, but I know for a fact that I don’t have one in Cherry’s winning color – GP Stain Reaction OB, which differs from the regular GP Stain Reaction insofar as it has an orange belly (thus the “OB”). I won’t be surprised if they’re backordered for a while, but I’m sure that I’ll find a way to get one or two down the road, until Cherry wins again, this time on an altogether different color.
