Hall of Fame Nominations are Open

Most of us – no matter how much we’d like the honor – are never going to be inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. There’s a high bar for future entries, as there should be. However, unlike in other sports, anyone who’s interested in bass fishing has the potential to celebrate the sport’s past and shape its future by participating in the Hall’s nomination process.
The deadline for nominating someone to be inducted into the Hall is January 15, 2025, and unlike in other sports, where you have to be a big donor, a member of the media, or a Hall of Famer yourself, in this particular case you don’t need any of that – just a pen and paper, or a computer and an internet connection. That doesn’t mean that your nominee is a shoo-in for induction. Far from it, so it probably doesn’t pay to submit a two-paragraph screed about how your Uncle Chester won two club tournaments in the 1980s. Nevertheless, if you make a compelling case for someone who might otherwise be a borderline possibility, I can guarantee you that your arguments will be fully considered. I’ve seen people change their minds about such things in the past, and expect that I’ll see it again in the future.

For all we talk about “growing the sport,” one of its best attributes for fans is that we can still make a difference. I’m just a regular bass club guy who ended up through a series of fortunate events on the Hall’s Board of Directors. It’s a volunteer position, and probably ends up costing me something to contribute. You don’t need to be on the board to have an impact, though. This is a Hall by the people, for the people – and in a sport where most fans also participate on some level, that seems wholly fitting.
