I vowed to myself that I was not going to eat all of the desserts at Anglers Inn this year. My 51 year old body was out of shape before the home isolation foisted on me by the pandemic, and now it’s worse. So what did I do when I got to Mexico? Of course I ate every single one of them.

In fact, I had more than the allotted amount. One night we celebrate our friends’ Mike and Samantha’s wedding at the lodge and Hanna brought in a wedding cake from the nearby town of La Cruz. Another night I requested the special treat of deep-fried Oreos. After the kitchen staff went to all of the trouble of making them, I couldn’t let them go to waste, could I?

I go to Lake El Salto for the fishing first and the camaraderie second, but the food definitely makes it better. From cooked-to-order breakfast to carne asada for lunch to appetizers to dinner — and those little 7 ounce Pacificos — I’m sure that’s what they serve in heaven.

If you haven’t been, and you like to fish and eat, you owe it to yourself to go. Shoot me an email and make sure your Lipitor is packed. It’s worth the effort.
