Number One on My Fishing Wish List

I pay retail for ‘em just like you do, over twenty bucks a pop, and I’m convinced that the Lobina Lures Rico is worth every penny, if not more. You may think that the Yellow Magic and the Splash It are the same, and they may be, but no topwater makes me more confident than the cup-faced, blooping Rico.

I bought my first one over 20 years ago, and while it’s rare to lose one (they float and you fish them on relatively heavy line), I’ve bought many more since then – typically the ¼ ounce standard version for home and the ½ ounce Rio Rico for my increasingly frequent trips to Mexico. They produce lots of bass. They produce big bass. They may increase your need for heart pills.

I don’t mind that the paint eventually flakes off. That’s just the sign of a bait that works.

I don’t mind that you have to change out the trebles frequently, either, even the pricey feathered ones. That’s just the price of doing business.

I do hope, however, that someone who has an “in” with Lobina will convince them to make a larger – 5/8 or ¾ ounce – model. It should be exactly the same proportions as the others, just bigger. There are times, especially when it’s windy, that even the larger Rio Rico doesn’t cast as precisely as a heavier model would, and doesn’t spit as much as I’d like. I know it would help me catch some bigger fish.

I don’t want anything different, just more of the same.

Is that too much to ask?
