Titletown USA - Part II

When I caught my personal best smallmouth in Michigan earlier this month, I was fishing with Keith Combs, a resident of Huntington, Texas.

When I caught my personal best largemouth in Coolidge, Texas, almost a decade ago, I was fishing with Clark Reehm, then a resident of Huntington, Texas.

When I caught what I’m pretty sure was my personal best snakehead a few summers ago close to home in Virginia, I was fishing with Clifford Wiedman, a resident of…spoiler alert….Huntington, Texas.

Three anglers. Three boats. Three species. Three states. All with partners from a one stoplight town.

I don’t know if it’s something in the gene pool, or a special additive in the water, or just pure coincidence, but If I ever start tournament fishing again, I’m going to recruit a partner from there, maybe fly him in for games like Jefferson in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” For our upcoming trip to Panama I might find a small one who will fit in my suitcase or my Yeti Hopper. Don’t ask why and don’t mess with a good thing.
