Back on the Plane Gang
Posted by Pete Robbins on Jun 16th 2020
I have not been on a plane since returning from Guatemala in February. I have not been more than 80 miles from home since returning from the Bassmaster Classic in early March. I’ve been blogging about travel like crazy, despite not engaging in it. It’s time to end those streaks.
I don’t take travel lightly right now, and I believe that each person should operate within their comfort zone. There’s no real playbook here – you can take minimal risks and still come down with a nasty case of the virus, or you can let it all hang out and escape scot-free. I’m trying to find the sweet spot that exists outside the dual orbits of cowardice and foolhardiness.
We’re headed to Alaska, back to Bear Trail Lodge, and I take comfort in the fact that Alaska Airlines is not selling middle seats and they have liberal rescheduling policies. Furthermore, per the state’s updated guidelines for travelers from out-of-state, we’ll get tested for COVID shortly before we go. Finally, we are going to go exclusively to Bear Trail Lodge instead of making multiple stops before of after. Hanna will just have to wait until next year to see Denali or winch in some halibut.
I feel fortunate that we have these choices and these options, and cannot wait to get on that Beaver float plane headed for a remote trout-filled stream, the original social distancing.
