A Waste of a Good Year So Far, But it Can Be Fixed
Posted by Pete Robbins on Feb 3rd 2021
It’s already February and I have not yet caught a bass or made a Tackle Warehouse order so far. Those failures are on me, although over the past few days I can ascribe some of the blame to Mother Nature. It’s been in the 20s and 30s here, with a mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain. It’s not much better in the bass belt. I spoke to a friend in Birmingham yesterday who said it was 28. Another friend practicing for the Toyota Series event in Florida said it was in the 30s and blowing 30. At that point, with Florida strains, you might as well go to the Waffle House.
But better days are coming. My mother had the second dose of the vaccine this week and my father is set to get it shortly. My chance may be a way down the line, but at least there’s light at the end of the tunnel.
Spring is on the way, too.
And the Elites start next week, after what seems like the shortest offseason ever.
Most importantly, we’re just about four months from El Salto. I know that I’m starting to sound like a broken record at this point, but I cannot stress enough the restorative powers of Mexican bass and 7 ounce Pacificos. I was fortunate to go to Alaska last summer, but by the time November rolled around I was beaten down. That sounds self-indulgent, because I remained employed and healthy, as did my family, but it’s true. I sit in the chair staring at the same screens for 10 to 12 hours a day. It’s depressing, and it’s not like there was much good news outside the window to celebrate. Spending 12 days at El Salto over Thanksgiving, however, brought me back to the land of the living. It made me more appreciative. It got me ready to work.
June cannot come soon enough.
Let me know if you want to join us. I can’t promise a 10-pounder, but I can promise great weather, great service, and a need to expand your belt by a notch or two.
