The One Pants Challenge

I’ve often said that you could go to Anglers Inn’s Mexico properties with just the contents of a carry-on, and while I didn’t adhere to that limitation on my recent trip I inadvertently proved it to be true. I’d planned to wear a pair of fishing pants on the plane and pack three pairs of shorts, but somehow two of those pairs got left in the house. When I arrived and unpacked all I had was a single pair.

That’s why if you look at my pictures from the trip on social media, in each pic I’m either wearing my khaki Cabela’s pants or my black Columbia shorts.

Fortunately, at Anglers Inn they do your laundry every day, so as long as the pants were clean for the trip back to frigid Virginia I’d be fine. Otherwise, I could rotate them back and forth as the fish slime necessitated washing.

The only conundrum would have been if I’d forgotten shorts altogether – could I have survived the 90 degree days in my lightweight pants or would I have had to make cutoffs and fear shrinkage upon the return home? There was no place nearby to buy another pair, although I might have been able to borrow some.

Being an angling fashionista, I don’t think I’ll go down this route again. Furthermore, while the carry-on-only strategy is appealing, I like bringing more tackle too much to ever employ it. Nevertheless, it’s nice to know that it’s possible – just leaves more room in the suitcase for Senkos and deep-diving crankbaits.
