[As I’ve started to go down the swimbait rabbit hole, at least mentally, I’ve been amazed by the creativity and craftsmanship employed by many of the builders and painters. This week I’m going to feature a few of my favorites.]

Pavon.

Tucunaré

Peacock bass.

Whatever you call them, they are badasses. If you like to fish for largemouths and smallmouths, don’t let yourself get tempted into going to the Brazilian jungle. It will ruin you, haunt your dreams and empty your bank account. I’ve been three times (along with fishing for them once in Miami) and I am addicted. It doesn’t hurt that they’re gorgeous.

Still, I want to find the fish that can eat one. That dude is a certified hammer.

So is whoever painted this Imakatsu Bassroid. That guy should be working for a museum-grade taxidermist, making mucho dinero in the employ of a museum or Johnny Morris. At $65 bucks or so, it’s a pricey bait, but costs far less than any of the taxidermy on my wall.
