Making Hay While the Sun Shines
Posted by Pete Robbins on Aug 2nd 2021

I returned from a mini college reunion in Connecticut Sunday afternoon and now barring some unforeseen catastrophe or opportunity (or lottery win, which would be a miracle since I don’t play) I’m home until September 29th. I last traveled long distance in June, so I won’t have to use any vacation during July, August or the vast majority of September. That gives me time to recharge the batteries, bolster my leave account and get some serious work done.
It’s unusual territory for me because the last time I was home for 58 days straight, and in the same time zone for 101 days was…well, it definitely wasn’t 2021, and probably wasn’t 2020, either. I love to travel so much and in recent years have been far afield whenever possible, so I can’t recall the last time it happened.
Rather than being sad or discombobulated, I’m going to take it as an opportunity, because at the same time as this de facto house arrest I also have more entities buying my work than ever before. Print media may be dying a slow and painful death, but the world of fishy word-based infotainment seems to be growing. I have lots of outlets that are hungry for more and more material. That’s clearly a win for me, but I’d like it to be a win for all of us, so I’m seeking your help: Specifically, what are some topics that should be written about, but you’ve set to see in print or pixels? It could be about tactics, personalities, destinations, or anything else fishing-adjacent. I can’t guarantee that even the best ideas will be accepted by any of my editors, but if there’s something novel to be explored I can probably find a place for it, in this blog or, as appropriate, some other place. Whatcha got?
