Ozarks anglers take notice: Your services are required in the great state of Alaska.

For the second straight year, our best Bristol Bay lure for fooling big king salmon was not some specialized fly, spinner or spoon, but rather a plug (not crankbait) that’ll make every Table Rock pro’s heart go pitter-patter: a big old Wiggle Wart.

Granted, it was not the original Wart (our guide looked at me quizzically when I tried to explain the search for “pre-Rapala models”), and they favor the Mag Wart or the Brad’s Wiggler in the same large size. Additionally, you can leave the Phantom Craws at home, as this is a chrome zone. Still, it shows the universal appeal of a good lure, and makes me think that when I go back next year I’ll bring a box or two of other mid-range divers to see what else they might bite.
