The Doors of Perception

“Windows are for cheaters, chimneys for the poor/Closets are for hangers, winners use the door.” — Bruce Springsteen, “Rosalita”
Unlike many of you, I’m not a sticker-on-my-vehicle guy. I don’t have sponsors, don’t need to risk vandalism by advertising a political affiliation, and just generally like to keep things simple. My tow vehicle will be 10 years old in February, and it only got deflowered with its first decal about three years ago – the rear windshield has an “Anglers Inn” logo, because Mexico is my happy place.
But if you’ve fished for any period of time at all, and engaged in crass consumerism, then you’ve likely accumulated a lot of fishing-related stickers. They might advertise a product or a store or cause. Hell, many of us could wallpaper our houses with Tackle Warehouse stickers.
What do you do with all of them?
I suppose the obvious answer would be “throw them out,” but that seems wasteful and non-creative.
Some people put them on tackle boxes or their beer fridge or their kids’ foreheads.
I’ve elected to festoon the inside of the door to my garage with them. It’s the one “safe space” in the house that Hanna has not invaded or taken over, and Mexico notwithstanding it’s my domestic happy place. It’s where I keep my boat, my baits, and my beer. Why not decorate it in a way befitting my lowbrow taste and fish-based budget? I figure we have at least six more years in this house, which means there’s time to get it filled up completely.
